About Derek McCammon , DPM, FACFAS
Dr. McCammon is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon/podiatrist who has been in practice since 1999. He enjoys getting to know his patients and relishes the fact that “everybody is different and cannot be treated the same.” He is a very conservative surgeon who can be trusted to treat his patients as if they were family members or friends. He is a past-president of the Oregon Podiatric Medical Association and is the current Clinical Director (Fit Feet) for Special Olympics Oregon.
As a podiatrist, Dr. McCammon specializes in treating the foot and ankle and he sees young children to adults. He likes treating sports injuries to the foot and ankle, which often consist of strains, sprains and fractures. He also treats common conditions such as, arthritis of the foot and ankle, children with flat feet and ingrown toenails. While many of these conditions do not need surgical intervention, Dr. McCammon is also a specialist in reconstructive foot and ankle surgeries and correcting genetic or acquired deformities such as hammertoes and bunions. He is a specialist in using the newest techniques, including Lapifuse, to perform 3D bunion corrections that helps patients bear weight quicker after surgery and achieve a more optimal long-term result.
Dr. McCammon’s favorite thing about being a podiatrist is that he can help people walk and move better, without pain so that they can maintain a healthy lifestyle – whether that’s running a marathon or going to the grocery store without pain.
Dr. McCammon is a local and grew up in Bend, Oregon before attending Sam Barlow High School in Gresham. There, he met and married his High School sweatheart. They raised their family in the Gresham community and today he enjoys treating many of his former HS classmates and their families.
He has been an avid outdoor enthusiast for the all of his life. He started snowboarding in 1984 when the sport was in its infancy, and he even raced. He is a lifelong competitive cyclist. Dr. McCammon enjoys traveling, hiking and being with his family. He and his wife, Heidi, have three children who are the loves of their life.
