To our valued patients

On Monday, February 11th we were notified of a potential cyber attack by a Chinese based group that calls themselves BianLian. Unfortunately, it looks like Advantage Orthopedic and Sports Medicine was amongst a long growing list of medical practices that this is happening to. We took immediate action to secure our data and our computer systems. We utilize a cloud-based internet driven electronic health record for daily operations and records of patients. This was unable to be hacked due to the cloud base. However, they claim to have other data that may include a breach in HIPAA regarding patient information. We are diligently working with our IT department, The FBI and local law enforcement to rectify this asap.

Rest assured that at this time everything is secure moving forward in all our systems. We will be looking through the breach in the coming days ahead and will notify any patients if their information was breached. This is a lengthly process and we appreciate your patience.

Facts: The breach occurred as follows:
I. On 2/11/24, our system experienced a cyber-attack, potentially resulting in a breach of personal information.
2. We are actively cooperating with law enforcement agencies and our in house IT department that are monitoring our systems 24/7.
3. Should you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact our office 503-661-5388. Our team is here to assist you in any way possible.

We strongly advise you to take the following steps immediately:

Call the toll-free numbers of anyone of the three major credit bureaus (below) to place a fraud alert on your credit report. This can help prevent an identity thief from opening additional accounts in your name. As soon as the credit bureau confirms your fraud alert, the other two credit bureaus will automatically be notified to place alerts on your credit report, and all three reports will be sent to you free of charge.
